I am in search of a  Management Couple for this very exclusive World Class 5 star luxury lodge in Kenya. I am in search of candidates with 5 Star experience in senior management of 5 star hotels and/or resorts.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This is a senior position with day to day responsibility of all departments of our property in the Masai Mara. The lodge manager is responsible for organizing and coordinating all lodge operations and procedures in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency. To organise and supervise all of the operational and administrative activities that facilitate the smooth running of our Lodge. This includes general management, staffing and HR, Housekeeping, all Food and Beverage service, Guest experience, finance and admin, maintenance and security, game viewing- and other activities, spa, marketing and sales, community- and sustainability initiatives.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

KEY OUTPUTS:

General management responsibilities:

· Determining, managing and implementing all operating procedures

·Co-ordinating and managing the team, delegating as appropriate

· Operating to the highest safety, security, health and hygiene standards

· Ensuring all operational  equipment is well maintained and operational at all times

· Month end reporting and regular communication to management and key stakeholders

· Cover all daily, weekly and annual requirements expected from the Lodge manager (more detail provided in the Job description)

· Enhance the value and excellent reputation of our company, its business and the property by maintaining, developing and implementing short, medium and long term strategies and objectives which enhance business/profitability and enhance the physical condition and guest experience of the property.

·Monitor the property’s key performance indicators and initiate corrective actions and new initiatives whenever necessary.

 

Guests:

· Strive to deliver THE BEST , personalized and courteous Guest experience, every day !!!!!

· Active, visible and constantly “stepping in the Guests’ shoes” by walking around, etc.

· Meet with all Guests, every day, being a familiar presence and support to them during their stay

· Always inspire our staff to strive to exceed our Guests’ expectations

· Ensure a smooth arrival and departure experience, co-ordinate and manage guest transfers
Staff and HR

· To live by our 11 Commandments and 5 Beliefs

· To train, live, motivate and inspire all office staff to aspire to our company values.

· Constant management, drive and motivation to all staff

· Ensure that you are familiar with the HR policies and procedures manual.

· Ensure that the Healthy Living Program is driven, alive and growing at the lodge and involving the local communities

· Be fair and consistent in Industrial Relations

· Manage all HR aspects in accordance with the country’s law, including disciplinary procedures if required

· Recruitment of all new staff

· Ensure that all staff to be trained in their areas of responsibility. Arrange/attend regular training workshops

· Develop, upskill and train staff as appropriate, including improving language skills where needed

· Implement, follow and train according to the One Nature Handbooks, Signature Guides (Lodge and Food) and recipes

· Co-ordinate and manage HOD’s to ensure they understand and action their responsibilities

· Roster staff and manage leave

· Oversee all management, communication, training and motivation of all staff

· Efficient communication between departments with daily operation, as well as regular departmental meetings

· Conduct quarterly staff performance appraisals, and annual salary reviews

 

Food and Beverage

· Ensure excellent food and beverage quality, local and seasonal menus and beautiful presentation

· Source good quality products that are needed to maintain the product or service offered, locally as far as possible, in a cost effective manner

· Manage the supply chain and oversee ordering and procurement

· Manage and control stocks

· Oversee service at mealtimes

· Manage field food provision

· Implement, follow and train according to our best operating prictise handbooks, Signature Guides (Lodge and Food) and recipes

· Act to control theft, loss and wastage

·Month end reporting and financial performance of this department

 

Property

· Managing and maintaining of the property and its operating equipment to the highest standard whilst adhering to budget

· Monthly maintenance action plan

· Efficient back of house operations, and functioning of the Heart of House

· Ensuring high value equipment is correctly serviced and maintained, including desalination plants, generators, electrical equipment, IT equipment, pumps, solar, water, sewerage, aircons, laundry

· Ensure rooms are well maintained and presented, with all aspects vital to guests functioning properly

· Oversee housekeeping and laundry, monitor stock and standards, and cleanliness

· Asset register compiled and maintained

· Annual preventative maintenance action plan

· Capex planning

· Have a plan for management of all emergencies: health, safety, fire, terrorism, etc.

· Regular training for staff on emergency management e.g. fire

· Ensure that all relevant safety measures have been put in place to  keep Guests, staff, equipment, buildings, vehicles safe

 

Sustainability- and Community initiatives

· Be our “Green eye” to ensure that all staff are trained and are living our sustainability ethos

· Share our Sustainability initiatives with our Guests, trade partners and staff

· Always look for opportunities how we can keep on improving and running the lodge more efficiently

· Encourage an understanding of the One Nature Foundation and manage the Foundation projects

· Establish relationships between us as a company, the lodge and the community

· Look for initiatives that we can get involved in the community, with the assistance of the Community champion

Local office and information

· Liaison between the lodge and the NBO Office with regards to Guest relations, procurement, logistics procedures Lodge Manager at the Lodge

· Liaise with the Nairobi Accountant with regards to all company financial requirements

· Maintain and grow healthy relationships with all neighbours

· Constantly keeps himself / herself aware of the current socio-political-economic-cultural in the domestic / international spheres.Our local “Minister of current affairs” – being aware of current affairs with regards to issues that impact on tourism in Kenya

· Keep your ear to the ground in relation to our 3rd parties competitors and partners, (new hotels, new developments, preferred suppliers for Guest accommodation), stock and identify initiatives we can get involved with

PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· At least 5 years’ senior management experience in International Small Luxury Hotels of The World  or Leading Hotels of The World

· Lodge management and lodge operations experience

· Hospitality Management Degree or Diploma

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· World class Hospitality and Service standards

· Exceptional Food and Beverage knowledge

· Environmental and National issues

· First Aid Training (beneficial)

· Valid unendorsed (international) driver’s license and Public drivers Permit is a prerequisite
