Group Project & Capex Manager Luxury Tour Operator Johannesburg

We are now in search for an experienced Group Project & Capex Manager for a luxury tour operator based in Sandton, Johannesburg.

a) Project Management

Take full ownership of 1 -3 large (“growth”) projects per annum to ensure projects are delivered on time, to high standard and within budget.
Plan, track and report all technical, operational and financial deliverables, against defined milestones. Agree and implement corrective actions as required.
Interact with key stakeholders to establish and agree scope, design options, critical lifecycle requirements and standards.
Appoint professional advisors, and document terms, payment schedules and deliverables in collaboration with key finance and legal personnel
Work with logistics, procurement and quantity surveyors to cost projects, set budgets, agree resources, and set operational sequencing and produce a detailed project management plan for signoff and approval
Set and manage effective project meetings, supported by updated project management plans, minutes, deliverables and subsequent resolution of action items
Review the quality of the work completed with the project team to ensure that it meets the project standards
Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures and
Forecast project operational and financial outcomes based on latest available information.

b) Ongoing Maintenance & care of assets

Agree maintenance requirements and set priorities with regional directors and provide technical review and oversight of planned regional and lodge Capex and R&M spend
Develop a maintenance plan for each lodge, taking into account front of house, back of house, infrastructure and staff accommodation
Train maintenance staff to ensure Capex is well cared for

c) General

Attend and provide feedback at monthly Capex meetings
Maximise return on Capex investment spend through appropriate design choices and planned R&M
Review investments and projects to ensure original deliverables are met
Liaise with treasury to plan cashflow requirements
Understand and plan for transfer costs, duties and capital allowances (tax) in each region
Maintain, update and agree medium (1-3 year) and long term (10 year) Capex plans
Review pricing, quality and critical deliverables of suppliers.
Perform health and safety as well as insurance risk audits during lodge visits


BSc (Hons) Property Studies or equivalent
5 years’ experience as a Project Manager (on projects exceeding R20m)
Experience of working in East and Southern Africa would be a benefit
Technical expertise to advise on renewable energy and sustainability projects a benefit
Must be a Team player, work with diverse cultures of varying seniority, age and abilities


Have an eye for detail for numbers and be able to critically analyze and resolve complex queries and problems
Excellent problem solving skills
Be open to and adapt to diverse cultures, languages and environments given the multiple regions the company is operating in
